The safety and wellbeing of our staff, students, and visitors is our highest priority. If you have any questions you can contact us at int.admissions@mail.tsu.ru.

Applications can be submitted as of 15 January 2023.

The deadline for applying is 20 July 2023.

All applicants are encouraged to start applications early and take their time presenting their best effort. It is going to take about 3 months from the day of application until the arrival at TSU.

WHERE TO START?

Register on our website https://admissions.tsu.ru/. Following the above link, you can also get a consultation with a manager about the admission process. During the application process don’t forget to upload scanned copies of your valid passport and documents that confirm your academic background (diploma, diploma supplement, certificates, transcripts, i.e. academic credentials). For each post-secondary institution you've attended, you should upload a registrar-issued transcript for review.

Note: Transcripts must be official copies from the registrar's office. We cannot accept unofficial transcripts or grade reports copied from student accounts. All your documents should be translated into Russian and notarized.

Take the entrance exams (written or oral).

When you successfully pass your entrance exams the agreement for paid education services and an invoice will appear in your personal account. Make an advance payment according to the invoice and complete the visa support application form.

If you have passed the exams successfully you will receive a confirmation letter on conditional approval. After that, the learning agreement and an invoice are sent. Make an advance payment according to the invoice and complete the visa support application form.

Get an invitation from the TSU Visa Department. Usually, it takes one month (20 business days). This invitation gives the right to apply for an entry visa at the Russian Embassy or Consulate in your home country prior to arrival in Russia. International applicants should not leave their home country before getting admission to TSU and an invitation letter.

After receiving the visa, please, send us (via email) information about your travel route (airline, flight number, arrival time, etc.) to organize the pick-up service. Please do so 7 days prior to your arrival.

In order to be enrolled as a student of Tomsk State University, your educational documents must be duly certified. You must have your diploma legalized (authorized) and translated into Russian. The translation should be notarized.

What is legalization?

Legalization is a procedure of giving legal effect to a document issued in one country on the territory of another country. Legalization shows that:

  • the document was issued by a competent and expert authority
  • the signature, seal and/or stamp on the document are genuine
  • the document’s format is correct

There are two types of document legalization:

  1. Apostille
  2. Consular legalization

The type of legalization depends on the country of origin of the document.

Apostille

This means that documents are legalized using 1 stamp or sticker only. This is called an ‘apostille’. In cases like this, Country A legalizes the document with an apostille. After this, no more steps are necessary. Documents with an apostille can be used in all the countries that are members of the Apostille Convention.

All the countries that are members of the Apostille Convention are listed on the website of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH).

Consular legalization

Legalizing a document involves taking certain steps in a certain order. ‘Country A’ is the country the document comes from:

Step 1

A competent authority in Country A checks that the document has been signed by the correct authority or authorities in Country A. This is usually the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Country A. After approval, a stamp or sticker is placed on the document. This shows the Russian authorities that the document has been issued by a competent authority in Country A.

Step 2

The Russian authorities check the document and place another stamp or sticker on it. This is usually done by the Russian embassy, consulate-general, or honorary consul in Country A.

Attention! After the documents are duly legalized (containing official stamps), they must be translated into the Russian language and witnessed by the Notary.

The University recognition

The recognition is conducted by the University staff in order to provide the candidate with the right to study. The legalized documents are prerequisites for University recognition. Our specialists review the documents (diploma and transcripts) and give their documented approval for students to be enrolled at the University.
