Mathematical analysis and modeling

This programme is going to provide students with advanced knowledge and skills in mathematical analysis, numerical methods, probability theory, mathematical statistics and computer technology. They also will be taught how to apply acquired knowledge for industrial and research solutions. The present programme is implemented jointly with Rouen University, France .

Upon successful completion of the Programme, students are awarded the degree as follows:
► Master of Science (MSc) in «Mathematics»
► Master of Mathematics in «Mathematics. Computer sciences» (Russia)
The Programme is carried out as follows:
1st and 2d semesters – the period of 18 weeks – are taught at National Research University – Tomsk State University in the subject area of ‘Mathematics. Computer Sciences’. It includes general vocational and specialty-oriented disciplines (such as industrial mathematics, optimization methods, supercomputer technologies etc.) along with the in-depth study of English.
3d and 4th semesters – according to the schedule of the European partner university (France) in Fundamental and Applied Mathematics; included are specialty-oriented disciplines, foreign languages, work placement.
During the 2d year of study, there is work on master thesis going in parallel with learning, with its consequent defense. The preparation and defense of master thesis, graduation exams take place at one of the partner universities (Tomsk State University, Rouen University). Educational activities are carried out according to an individual plan of a master student set up with participation of a research adviser.
Mode of study: full-time.
Significant part of study time is dedicated to learning English and – on a selective basis – Russian and French.
Mathematical education in Siberia began in 1917, when Tomsk State University established the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, one of the four faculties listed in the Russian Charter of Imperial universities (1884). It has contributed greatly to the development of mathematical studies and mathematical education in Siberia. For a long time, it had been the only faculty behind the Urals training specialists for mathematical departments of universities and research institutes.
At present, the Faculty staff includes 75 lecturers, 57 of them holding doctoral degrees; 16 Advanced Doctors of Sciences, 41 PhD holders, 1 corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Education; 2 Honoured Scientists of the RF; 32 Honoured Teachers of the RF higher professional education; 2 Academicians of the International Academy of Ecology and Human and Nature Safety; 1 corresponding member of the International Academy of Informatization.

Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty runs two specialized Doctoral Thesis Defence Committees:

Professor A.M. Grishin leads the research and the Conjugated problems of multiphase reaction media, informatics and ecologyresearch and teaching group in the following areas:
Multiphase reaction media and physical and mathematical modelling of some industrial and natural disasters, including wildfires (forest, steppe and peat fires) and their ecological impact, with application of innovative computational and information technologies to three-dimensional problems of mathematical physics.
Theoretical and experimental studies of aerodynamic characteristics and characteristics of nonstationary conjugate heat transfer with allowance for thermochemical destruction of a body and injection of a gas into the boundary layer to develop new thermal control techniques for bodies in axially symmetric or three dimensional supersonic flow of a gas.
Satellite sounding of the atmosphere – Earth’s surface system and forest fire detection.
Today, the FMM has got five computer labs and about 100 state-of-the-art computers. All computers are engaged in academic and research processes and are connected into a network. The potential of supercomputer SKIF Cyberia (performance 62 TFLOPs) and various training, controlling and testing software are largely incorporated in the FMM academic activity.

3) certified translation of the diploma and the passport into Russian language (can be submitted upon the arrival)
4) a completed application form (online)
5) other diplomas and certificates proving any other achievements (if available)
6) entrance exams:
- written test in mathematics
- an interview
Tuition fee per year is $5 200.
Scholarships are available via the Russian government scheme.
