Following the adoption of the new Land Code and the Soils Law, the country is seeing the rising demand for highly qualified soil scientists capable of solving issues in the field of natural resources, sustainable development, and land management. Particularly, the rising need in environmental management research is becoming more and more apparent. Among the relevant issues are the preservation and restoration of disturbed lands, landscapes, and biodiversity.

 

Brief description of the program: students' area of focus will include the Land Code, land administration system, legal issues of land use, land management technology, and the real estate cadastre—a system for land monitoring, cadastral and economic evaluation of land resources in the land market. Included in the curriculum are also the various forms of soil stability in ecosystems, in-vivo, technologically modified, and anthropogenically transformed (due to nuclear plant activity) genetic features of soil formation, and intensively developing oil-and-gas sector.

 

Prospects for employment, possible sites for professional and/or research activities:

 

Master graduates can work as teachers in universities, agricultural and forestry institutes, colleges and scientific institutions of soil, forestry, and environmental profiles, environmental agencies. Graduates are sought-after in various organizations connected with such fields as ecology, soil evolution, evaluation and protection of land resources, etc. Among said organizations are:

 

  • Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMCES SB RAS)
  • Institute of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (IPA ) SB RAS
  • Siberian Botanical Garden
  • Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture and Peat of Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences
  • Cadaster chambers
  • District-level, municipal, and regional departments of land management
  • Land surveying private organizations
  • Project enterprises of Tomsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk, Abakan, etc.

 

Graduates may continue their scientific career as postgraduate studfents at TSU or other universities.

2) copy of high school certificate/a registrar-issued transcript of grades for the last semester; upon arrival, students must provide the Admission Office with an original document

3) certified translation of the diploma and the passport into the Russian language (can be submitted upon the arrival)

6) entrance exams:

                - written test in soil studies

                - interview
